I ride horses. And sometimes come off of them. Though mostly I just ride them. Roxy has visited the stables a few times, once or twice on her way back from camp and once or twice for fun.
For the most part she considers the horses strange and something about which a corgi should be cautious. The first time she ever went, she would bark furiously at Rocky (the horse) whenever I was riding past her or whenever the horse was a safe distance from wherever she was.
She has slowly learned to accept that Rocky will not murder me (I didn’t tell her about the fence incident) and she tolerates him now, though enviously I think – since he gets attention from me and she gets ignored when we are there.
This week she went with me and sat quietly tied to the table the entire time while I groomed, tacked and rode Rocky. She kept her corgi eyes glued desperately to me the entire time however. Lest I ride fast enough to take off and fly away from her.
Besides the horses there are pigs, goats, llamas, and chickens and ducks hanging around. She was unsure of the pig and goats, because they seemed more interested in her than she was of them and that? That means they are NOT to be trusted. Plus, truly she is a wimp. Despite her outward appearance.
She was mildly afraid-slash-uninterested in the other animals but then. Then she saw a chicken cluck and scurry. And then she turned into this guy and I’m pretty sure the chickens looked like this to her.
And those chickens, they KNEW she was rabid about them. These chickens spend their days with an Australian Sheppard and a Chihuahua mix and they never so much as ruffle a feather with worry. But then Roxy gets within a few feet of them (and, believe me, she would never have noticed them, if they stayed still) and they squawked and flapped and scrambled. It was as if they could sense she was a little bloodthirsty. As if the rabbits in our neighborhood sent them some facebook message like “dudes, this corgi will totally try to eat you if you let her. P.S. she is kind of tubby and therefore probably slow so you could likely out run her.”
